Simple Glitch Art Diagram - jonCates (2020)


jonCates is a founding artist-scholar in the field of Glitch Art, exhibiting and curating his projects worldwide in exhibitions and festivals from Ars Electronica Festival in Austria to the Museum of Moving Image and Rhizome in New York.
今藝術 ARTCO and 典藏 ARTouch, one of the most important, biggest and most prestigious Art publications in 台灣 (Taiwan), writes that jonCates’ projects ‘provide an alternative view of contemporary aesthetics.’ They write that his experimental Glitch Western project, 鬼鎮 (Ghosttown) transmits ‘ghostly, chaotic and obfuscated technological images, reflect the illusion and conflict of the development of the western United States.’ this review comes from their January 2020 edition, on the Sensefield 感野 Sovereign Worlds 主權世界 Art exhibition at the 剝皮寮歷史街區 Bopiliao Historic Block bopiliao in collaboration with the Taiwan International Ethnographic Film Festival (TIEFF) in 台北 (Taipei).
As a professor at several international New Media and Media Art Histories programs, Cates teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he developed the New Media Art curriculum. His program is now ranked one of the Best New Media Programs in Best Fine Arts Schools of the United States.
